Effect of adding a papain digest of ox liver to brain heart infusion cysteine broth on the recovery of non-sporing anaerobes from simulated blood cultures.

چکیده
Panmede, a papain digest of ox liver, added to brain heart infusion cysteine broth improved the recovery of non-sporing anaerobes from simulated blood cultures where human blood was added to each broth. The brain heart infusion broth containing both cysteine and Panmede supported the best isolation of non-sporing anaerobes during the first 48 h incubation compared with the four commercial media tested in parallel. Good recovery of anaerobes during the first 24 h was obtained with the brain heart infusion broth supplemented with cysteine and Panmede, fastidious anaerobe broth and Brewer's thioglycollate from Southern Group Laboratories but not from Thiol medium and the other type of Brewer's thioglycollate medium tested.

Effect of adding cysteine to brain-heart infusion broth on the isolation of Bacteroides fragilis from experimental blood cultures.
Adding 0.05% cysteine to brain-heart infusion broth greatly improved the recovery of three strains of Bacteroides fragilis from simulated blood cultures. No bacteroides were isolated after 24 hours' incubation in brain-heart infusion broth without added cysteine, and this was therefore a poor medium for the isolation of B. fragilis. Results with brain-heart infusion broth containing 0.05% cyste...
متن کاملAn experimental comparison of Thiol broth with Brewer's thioglycollate for anaerobic blood cultures.
In a series of simulated blood culture experiments, small inocula of eight different strains of Bacteroides and five strains of anaerobic cocci were added to Difco Thiol broth and Southern Group Brewer's thioglycollate. Both methods enabled all of the strains to be isolated after one to three days' incubation, with the exception of Bacteroides melaninogenicus, and most strains to survive after ...
متن کاملThe investigation of molecular characterization of presumptive Listeria monocytogenes isolates from a food-processing environment
Background: Listeria is a Gram-positive, non-spore forming, facultative anaerobic intracellular bacterium. The most important pathogens in mammals include Listeria monocytogenes and Listeria ivanovii. The former generally causes disease and death in both humans and animals while the latter performs sporadically and primarily causes illness in ruminant...
متن کاملRecovery of yeast from vented blood culture bottles.
Rates of isolation of yeasts from blood cultures were significantly enhanced by venting vacuum blood culture bottles in studies of both stimulated and patients' blood cultures; however, the time interval to detection of positivity of yeasts in the clinical studies was significantly (P less than 0.01) shorter in a vented bottle with biphasic brain heart infusion medium than in a vented bottle wi...
متن کاملThe lethal effect of tryptone-soya broth.
Overnight cultures of V. cholerae, V. el tor, non-cholera vibrio, and Streptococcus pneumoniae in tryptone-soya broth (with 5% blood added for the last-named) failed to grow on subculture despite visible growth in all tubes. Viable counts and pH determinations of overnight cultures of various species in tryptone-soya broth, brain-heart infusion broth, and Lab-Lemco peptone broth show that death...
